In 2006 we visited Elgin to see Parlan and Mary McFarlanes homestead (which is in excellent condition.) There are still several descendants of  Thomas Marshall in the Elgin area since his daughters married into the Anderson and McFarlane families who proceeded to further intermarry in subsequent generations.

During that time we also visited the Marshall grave site. I noted Greg's visit in 2003 ;some things have changed that may be of interest to you.

The Marshall property in Trout River is now owned by Victor Bouchard. Victor was not aware of the graves when he acquired the property. While plowing the adjacent field he unearthed a buried grave stone and when he investigated, he found the other stones. He has since made a path from his back yard  to the graves and and is showing it proper respect. I  photographed the stones and have attached the pictures and the write up I did following the visit.

Thomas and Jannet Marshall’s stone was leaning against a tree.

This ( left) photo was taken in 2003 when a Cemetery Survey was made. We did not see this stone in 2006.

This long rectangular grave stone marked the graves of the son of Thomas and Jannet, James Marshall. The stone was found lying on the ground a few feet away from his parent’s stone. This is apparently the stone that Victor unearthed
